On Bush's "Afghanistan service is romantic" comments
"I must say, I'm a little envious. If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you … in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks."
-the president, to soldiers in Afghanistan
On one hand, I understand what Bush is saying. On the other hand, he had his chance for "romance," and he passed on it. Living vicariously these days, I presume.
As far as literal romance, one could point out that a year or 13 months away from loved ones is kind of the opposite of romance. But enough preaching.
