Internet killed the (talk) radio star
John McCain's huge Super Tuesday win over Mitt Romney tells me one thing: Rush Limbaugh is old news. Despite the big mouth's vitriolic comments about how Romney is the only Republican worth voting for, GOP primary voters overwhelmingly said "no thanks." McCain won big, and Mike Huckabee didn't do so bad either.
Limbaugh said this would mean the death of the Republican Party, but it shouldn't. Sure, McCain and Huckabee haven't always voted for tax cuts, and the two of them -- unlike many Americans -- don't believe, for example, that children of "illegals" should be denied health care. (What would Jesus say?)
So this makes Romney the real conservative, supposedly. Romney, who was basically liberal until this decade, and said in 1994 that he was "independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."
In 1994, Limbaugh got credit for the congressional "Republican Revolution," and probably rightly so. But those days are over, apparently.
