Paul Hackett subdues tresspassers with AR-15

Three men drive too fast around a corner, and end up in the yard of former congressional candidate and Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett. Hackett comes out of his house with a locked and loaded AR-15 (28 rounds in the magazine), and puts the men on their faces until the police arrive.

One of the guys had some brass knuckles, but I'm not sure Hackett or his family were ever in danger. Couldn't he have stayed inside and turned on a floodlight? That actually would have been safer, especially if the men (one was 19; the others 18) were armed.

If the guys were about to drive away after their lawn job, I could see justification for Hackett's actions. It was a citizen's arrest. But does someone deserve to be killed for vandalism?

Some people this so.

There is a "comments" thread attached to the Cincinnati Enquirer article, and lots of the respondents say "those guys are lucky they didn't get shot."

For crashing a car?

p.s. For the record, I did hope this guy would have been elected, and posted about him a few times.
