Can Italy ditch the euro?
Fistful of Euros blog has a post about John Kay's FT article on the possibility of Italy leaving the eurozone. FOE concludes it's not a matter of "if," but "when."
It's interesting that it's Italy, because Italy is an example of a state being harmed by an internationational regime in Lloyd Gruber's 2000 book, "Ruling the World." Gruber, a U of Chicago professor, suggests that intl institutions don't necessarily involve mutual gains/positive-sum relationships, and that there are in fact "loser states."
Starting the euro up was a logistical miracle (very well planned - it wasn't just luck), and it's not certain Italy would be as logistically savvy in leaving the currency group. IF they decide to.
Stay tuned.
