Sweden exits military op after learning Israel would participate

The Swedes said they were backing out of a joint military excercise in Italy when they found out "that a state not belonging to the Partnership for Peace, and with which Sweden did not previously have bilateral military co-operation and which does not take part in international peacekeeping missions" (read: Israel) was going to be a part of the exercise, according to the BBC.

The Israelis are not happy to hear the news, according to Ha'aretz. The article says at least one government source says Sweden has some of the most anti-Israel ministers in Europe, and another calls the move anti-Semitic.

  • I wonder how much of Israel's response is bullshit politicking by evoking the "anti-semite" card.

The dilemma being that because Israel is a jewish state disagreement and snubs such as by the Swedes can be spun to some sort of "anti-semite" slander.
