We love fake domain names

[Update: The operator of Cincinnatipolice.com takes issue with my application of the term "anti-police" to his site... read the comments of this post for his opinion if you're hesitant to visit the site.]

Cincinnati cynics either love fake domain names, or the owners of the real domains are too slow to think to buy similar domains first. Or both.

(Note: don't click on either of the links below if you don't want to support anti-police or anti-GOP sites.)

Cincinnatipolice.com has been around a while.

HamiltonCountyRepublicanParty.com, which leads to a GOP corruption story in the local paper, is relatively new. It used to lead to information about Democratic candidates, but apparently the domain owner was asked nicely to change it to be less misleading.

Clever.

  • Look here sport - CincinnatiPolice.com is NOT and I repeat NOT an anti-police site. Nor is it a parody site. Try actually reading a website before you start posting statements about it. For someone who lists "Politics and journalism. What else?" under about me, all I see is a bunch of opinions. I guess anyone can call themselves a journalist. The courts showed we are journalists, as the lawsuit proved. Please actually go to a website and look at it before you make these incorrect statements.

    Thanks,

  • Yeah, "sport," I never said I was a journalist; I am not. I'm interested in journalism, such as I follow the industry.

If it's not the official site of the organization in the domain name, I'd consider that a parody site. I guess we'll disagree. I know the police consider it an anti-police site.

Perhaps "police watch-dog site" is more accurate. I have read a lot of your site, and realize it's not simply anti-police or trying to mislead anyone into thinking it IS the official site of CPD... but it does have a domain name people would assume is theirs... hence my use of the term "parody."
