U.S. to end farm subidies?

The United States and the European Union seem to be in a battle over who can reduce farm subsidies faster, with U.S. Trade Rep. Portman saying we'll end subsidies by 2010.

Have the farmers heard this? I know their representatives have, and there's an election coming up.

Wealthy nations reducting subsidies could greatly assist developing countries and improve U.S.-EU relations... so I'm skeptical.
