Middle Eastern states, comparatively

How have each of the states in the Middle East cooperated with the U.S.-led war on terrorism? Have any served particularly as stumbling blocks? Have any gone underappreciated?

How have the domestic situations in each of the states affected participation in the war on terrorism? (this is fairly obvious)

How have relations between the states of the region changed, if at all, since the "war" began?

How have foreign insurgents in Iraq used (traveled through, went to for hospitalization, etc.) Middle Eastern countries other than Iraq? Have the methods of these fighters made state-centric analysis outdated?

How relevant is the study of states when the many of the soldiers on one sid" don't fight to defend their own state or perhaps any state at all, but rather for a broader (and perhaps "civilizational") goal? Are they simply fighting to remove an occupying force from their region?

What motivates the individuals? And how do states play a role?
